Creative Construction and the Struggle over Progress - Democratic Planning in the 21st Century
11.06.2026 7-8:30pm @ NACHTASYL Hamburg
Kohei Saito, Christoph Sorg, and Jan Groos discuss new perspectives on social transformation, ecological limits, and the question of how livable futures can be designed beyond the compulsion for growth and catastrophism.
The climate crisis, resource scarcity, authoritarian tendencies, and economic uncertainty are increasingly calling into question the classic narratives of modern progress. But does this also spell the end of the idea of social emancipation?
The event “Creative Construction and the Struggle over Progress – Democratic Planning in the 21st Century” explores how the idea of democratic planning can be understood and utilized as a vehicle for a positive futurity. Especially in times of pervasive catastrophism, a democratic organization of our social reproduction represents an attractive alternative to the status quo of capitalist destruction.
